Experiences

  • Internships
  • Program Goals and Tasks: Depending on the major of the student, tasks will vary. Overall, the intern is going to complete the internship requirements specifically for their major plus the requirements for their school. Students will assist struggling Downtown businesses and provide 100-150 hours of assistance with marketing and branding, implementation of new business practices, graphic design for promotional materials, develop work plans, conduct business round tables, help with social media, website instruction, etc. Students will primarily work with at-risk businesses, many of which are minority and immigrant owned (over 50%), that had particular difficulty accessing available resources during the pandemic due to language and cultural barriers, a lack of trust of institutions, and a disconnect from traditional financial resources. Through this program, students will not only gain real world, hands-on experience by working with local business owners, but also serve as ambassadors on their prospective campuses to promote Downtown Wilkes-Barre’s businesses to the local student population. Through targeted social media campaigns, digital marketing strategies, and on-campus outreach, the ambassador will work to increase engagement and patronage to local businesses. Program Requirements: Weekly meetings - Schedule pending Minimum of 10 hours a week / 150 hours over the course of the semester Preferred field of study: marketing, communication, advertising, business, event management, hospitality management, graphic design, or a related subject Students will be granted a $500 stipend for participating in the program
