STEP 4: Using your school email, create an account for  PA CareerZone.

STEP 5: Take the career interest inventory through PA CareerZone to learn what career clusters align with your interests.

STEP 6: Submit the results page to your teacher. Your teacher will assign you a learning pathway tailored to your career cluster in LinkedIn Learning.

STEP 7: (Optional) Using your school email, create an account for  LinkedIn.

STEP 8: Update your LinkedIn profile. Follow 3-5 local businesses in that field/industry on LinkedIn.

STEP 9: Using your school email, sign up for a  Luzerne County Library  Card.

STEP 10: Your teacher will assign you a learning pathway containing courses to take throughout the year. Complete your LinkedIn Learning courses to develop skills needed in those career clusters.

STEP 11: Using your school email, create an account for  PA CareerLink.

Take a 60-question inventory on PA Career Zone to help discover what career clusters you are aligned with. These clusters will help you understand what industries you would be a good fit for in the future, and give you a starting point as you look into different fields.

Looking for a Job? Use PA CareerLink to search for jobs, find volunteer opportunities, build a resume, and practice interview skills.

LinkedIn
and LinkedIn Learning

Create a profile in LinkedIn to gain access to the world’s largest online professional network and connect with opportunities by showcasing your unique professional story through experience, skills, and education. Watch this video for a step by step walkthrough of how to create your account and activate your learning license.

Your teacher will assign you a learning pathway in LinkedIn Learning based on the career cluster of your interest. These pathways may contain courses from LinkedIn Learning, Metrix Learning, and Mango Languages. Take the courses throughout the year to gain in-demand skills needed in your career cluster. As you complete them, display your completion certificates on your LinkedIn profile to make yourself a more marketable candidate in your future job searches.

Register for a free library card to gain access to databases of additional online courses, such as Mango Languages, which may be featured in your learning pathway.

BlueCareer by EBSCOlearning

BlueCareer by EBSCOlearning is an easy-to-use resource center for library users interested in learning more about the skilled trades and seeking to explore a career transition. The platform also supports local employers looking for talent or seeking insights into the labor market.

BlueCareer provides in-depth information on more than 100 skilled trades, connects individuals with hundreds of trade schools across the United States and Canada, and provides training resources for those seeking to build their trade knowledge and experience.

Using BlueCareer, job seekers can explore 100+ trades in more than a dozen industries: Automotive, Aviation, Construction, Energy, Forestry, Personal Care, Home Care, Hospitality, Janitorial, Landscaping, Manufacturing, Marine, Security, Transportation, and Utilities.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement USA is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices.

Junior Achievement’s programs; in the core content areas of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy ignite the spark in young people to experience and realize the opportunities and realities of work and life in the 21st century.

Throughout the academic year, Luzerne Learns to Work students will have the opportunity to participate in various Junior Achievement programs, including:

– JA Inspire Career Discovery Experience, which helps inspire young adults on their pathway to a successful future

– JA Company Insight Program, which helps to pair high school students with companies that are willing to provide site tours and job-shadowing opportunities

– JA Tomorrow’s Teachers Program, which connects high school students who are interested in pursuing a future teaching career with opportunities to shadow a teacher in their district and teach an elementary classroom program on community involvement, careers, money, and entrepreneurship.

– Keystone Coding and Careers, which allows high school students to learn computer science and explore STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics) careers with a focus on developing an entrepreneurial mindset.
